I achieved a Ph.D. in Computational Science from Università della Svizzera italiana (Lugano, Switzerland) in March 2019. My Ph.D. work focused on the design of algorithms and software for the manipulation of large, sparse matrices. The main track of research was centered on high-performance, highly scalable selected inversion solvers. My thesis, titled “High performance selected inversion methods for sparse matrices”, is a work on describing power and limitations of the existing methods for matrix inversion, and designing algorithms and innovative parallel software, both iterative and factorization-based, presenting very good scaling performance.
From June 2019 I am a member of the Neuroengineering Lab as a temporary research fellow. The project I am involved in, “Electrophysiological characterization in pediatric subjects affected by drug-resistant epilepsy”, aims at the study and design of models for the electroencephalography (EEG). Various techniques are involved in order to build forward and inverse problems for EEG simulation, considering different conditions under which the brain activity can be correctly simulated (predicted) under various levels of data availability and quality.
